Who Else Needs Goals?

Imagine ...

You get woken at 2:00 am. It's dark. A vague, shadowy woman beckons you to the doorway. "Interesting dream," you think. You follow her into your living room. The lights are on. You scrutinize this person, this woman. She is lovely. Well-groomed. Attractive. Her face, though ... she looks a lot like you. More intensely You.
Roses upside-down in a vase. Don't be average - be different.
It is your face, and yet not your face. She glows with self-confidence, her stance is assured. What? What is this?
"Without saying a word, she points at your favourite chair - a second woman sits miserably huddled in your favourite lounger. Care-worn. Indifferently dressed. Radiating unhappiness like a toxic miasma of despair and hopelessness.

You mean to say, "Who are you? What are you doing in my house?", but a warning look from the Uber-You silences you. Flopping down on the sofa, your stare, wide-eyed & tongue-tied yet mesmerised.

The three of you sit silently in that room for what feels like an age, an aeon. Your focus swings from one woman to the other, even as your brain races to make sense of the situation. The silence sways and swings your thoughts, and in that silence understanding blooms.
Slowly.
Gently.
Like a flower opening tentatively, you reach for understanding ...

You wake up in your favourite chair. The remaining tendrils of memory give you an image, a sensation, of the three of you each sitting down, fusing & blending & melting into one.

A fusion of You, Sad-You, & Uber-You.

You feel your way to your thoughts.
You think your way to your feelings.

Exploring, considering, hunting for meaning & relevance.

"Three possibilities of Me. One deteriorated, One the same, One fabulous & awesome.
That One - the fabulous & awesome One - that is who I want to be.

How do I bridge that gap? How do I get from Here to There?"

The question grows & burns & tears into you, for minutes & hours & days ...

Want some Huge, Unbelievably Great Goals?

You saw the worst of you, & the best of you - potentialities that you hold right now.
Who we are is who we become.

How many goals have you achieved this year? For now, disregard your mundane, necessary every-day achievements.

Think Huge, Unbelievably Great Goals (HUGGS), that can change the world around you. How many?

Hold on - do you have any of those? Do you have any world-changing HUGGS? If you do, brilliant! How are you progressing?

If you don't - why not? What is stopping you from levelling-up, from becoming that awesome & fabulous You? Need some ideas?

Why you need goals

To get from Here to There, you need a path. That path can be long and intimidating - chop it up into excursions (goals), each of which takes you part of the way. Each excursion/goal has a set of tasks/actions.

Remember that great feeling when you look at your to-do list and go "TICK!" done? It feels great to accomplish something - hunt that feeling.

Achievers & high-performers set goals.
Creating a vision for your life & business takes work.
Mapping out your goals to achieve your vision takes work.
Listing & executing the tasks you have to perform to achieve your goals takes work.

Work & effort. What is at stake? You. Your life. Your business.

Let's do some Goal-mining!

Goal-mining ideas written on gold ingots.
  • List the 10 things you want to achieve in the next year.
  • Analyse your list critically - are all your items goals, or are some of them something else?
  • Eliminate your wants, needs, the things you crave, demand, desire, hope for, aim for, wish for, have a yen for, all the vague/fluffy stuff - be brutal.
  • Identify your real goals with a simple qualifying test. A goal is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, & Time-bound.

Prioritize your goals

Prioritize your list of real Goals, in terms of:
  1. How fast will they get you closer to a more awesome life, a more awesome You?
  2. Do they light a fire in your brain & get your pulse racing?
  3. Are they the right goals for you & do they support your integrity?
  4. Do they support your dreams?
  5. Are they Huge, Unbelievably Great Goals?

Pick ONE Goal, and commit!

Robert Frost poem: Promises to keep.
Great - you have a GOAL!

Can you fall in love with this HUGG? Will you love it, & nurture it, & feed it all the energy & support & affection it needs?

Give your Goal a theme song - how about a Gregorian chant, or some Heavy Metal? Make the whole experience new for you.
Choose a symbol / piece of jewellery / a colour - something visual & tangible that you can link to your goal. Keep this symbol with you all the time - to remind you of your goal. Train your subconscious mind to associate your goal with your symbol. You'll also be conditioning your mind - get all your aspects working toward this goal!

A new song, new thoughts, a bright flaming passion that will burn away all the layers of mediocrity, all the trappings of conformity.

Draw up your Battle Plan

Of course you need a Battle Plan! A simple list won't do it.

What do you need to do to achieve your HUGG:
  • in the next year?
  • in the next month?
  • in the next week?
  • right now, today?

Add the usual suspects of What, Who, How, Where - your Goal is your Why.

Make each Action a celebration of your commitment to you HUGG.
This will be hard work, but Oh, when you get there ... When you get there!
